GERUNDS AS SUBJECTS




 Hello everybody! In this class we're going to work with GERUNDS as SUBJECTS. But what are GERUNDS? Watch the video and find out...


GERUNDS are words that look like a verb but they are nouns. Take a look at these pictures:





How do we form GERUNDS? Look at this picture:





The GERUND has different uses, but we are going to use it as the Subject of a sentence, so it is always at the beginning of the sentence.







The spelling rules for the formation of the GERUND are the same as for the formation of the PRESENT CONTINUOUS VERBS.


Now, let's do some practice...

1- Complete the sentences using –ing forms of the verbs in the box.

clean  - play -  listen -  speak

a. ___________________________ a musical instrument can be difficult.

b. ___________________________ to music is one of Lou’s favourite activities.

c. ___________________________ my bedroom is so boring! I don’t like it at all!

d. ___________________________ English is easy for Tomás. He lived in Canada for a year.


2- Change the sentences so as to use a GERUND as subject in each sentence. Follow the example:

a. It is interesting to read a book.

    READING a book is interesting.

b. It is relaxing to listen to music.

    ___________________________________________________________

c. It is fun to play the guitar.

    ___________________________________________________________

d. It is exciting to go camping.

    ___________________________________________________________

e. It is entertaining to make videos.

    ___________________________________________________________

 

3- Complete the text about relaxation techniques using the verbs in brackets in the correct form:

(1) __________________ (deal) with stress can be very difficult. Some people try to ignore the problem by (2) ______________ (drink),  (3) _____________ (sleep) or (4) ______________ (isolate) themselves to forget about it. Other people seek for more positive solutions. This can include (5) ___________________ (look for) professional help or (6) __________________ (get) emotional help from friends and family. (7) __________________ (identify) the problem and so the source of (8) _________________ (suffer) to be able to find a solution. (9) __________ (do) recreational activities like (10) ___________ (garden), (11) ____________ (listen) to music, (12) _____________ (take) photography classes can also be of help.

 BIENVENIDOS  a este sitio de encuentro con el Inglés. Aquí se subirán actividades en caso de inasistencia de la docente por largos períodos (como por licencia médica) o de fuerza mayor que impidan el normal desarrollo de las clases presenciales. 

Dichas actividades sólo corresponderán a los alumnos pertenecientes a los cursos 2° 1° y 2° 4° de Ciclo Superior de la Escuela de Educación Técnica N° 3138 y serán corregidas en la clase presencial siguiente siendo requisito fundamental tenerlas impresas o copiadas en las carpetas (en caso de no poder imprimirlas) para ser consideradas como TAREAS REALIZADAS. No es necesario enviar nada por mail ni por ningún otro medio de comunicación a la docente a menos que se les informe lo contrario. 

Quedando todo esto muy en claro, ¡les doy una calurosa bienvenida a un nuevo año de trabajo y aprendizaje mutuo!
